About wooden shutters

A classic finish that suits period and new-build homes alike.

Wooden shutters are built from real hardwood, giving a solid, classic look that fabric blinds can't replicate, and add genuine value to a home.

Full height, tier-on-tier, or café style layouts let you control exactly how much of the window is covered, and the wood adds a noticeable amount of insulation too.

A fine, knot-free grain takes paint or stain beautifully for a smooth, premium finish. Real wood isn't suited to high-moisture or wet rooms though — for those, our PVC shutters give the same look with full moisture resistance.

  • Real hardwood construction with a fine, knot-free grain
  • Full height, tier-on-tier or café style layouts
  • Added insulation compared to blinds
  • A finish that adds to a home's resale value
  • 10 year guarantee on material and workmanship

Wooden shutters in the room.

Built with child safety in mind

Wooden shutters have no cords or chains at all — each panel is opened by hand or a hidden tilt rod, so there's nothing hanging loose to begin with. A genuinely strong option where child safety is a priority.

Common questions

Wooden shutters, answered.

Are wooden shutters child safe?

Yes — there are no cords or chains at all, since the louvres are controlled directly by hand or a hidden tilt rod.

How long does fitting take?

Wooden shutters take longer to make than blinds, typically several weeks, though fitting itself is usually a single visit once they arrive.

Do wooden shutters suit period homes?

Yes — they're a natural fit for period properties, and we're careful to work around original features rather than remove them where they still exist.

Fitted across the Lothians and Fife

Wherever you are, we can fit it.

Wooden shutters are especially popular in Edinburgh's Georgian townhouses and Victorian tenement bay windows, where a tier-on-tier or full-height layout suits the tall sash windows well. We fit them regularly across Livingston, West Lothian, Midlothian, East Lothian and Fife too.

New build homes

Wooden shutters add genuine resale value to a new-build home, and a level of finish that stands out from the standard blinds most new-build buyers start with.
